KAJIAN TINGKAT KEBERHASILAN PERSILANGAN ANTARA MELON (Cucumis melo L) dengan BLEWAH (Cucumis melo var cantalupensis) THE CROSS SUCCESS LEVEL STUDY BETWEEN MELON (Cucumis melo L.) AND CANTAOUPE (Cucumis melo var cantalupensis)

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji tingkat keberhasilan persilangan antara melon dengan blewah. Rancangan persilangan yang digunakan adalah dialel lengkap. Persilangan dilakukan saling silang antara 3 kultivar melon (melon kuning (MK), melon putih (MP),  melon merah (MM)) dan 2 kultivar blewah (blewah bentuk buah bulat (BB) dan blewah bentuk buah lonjong (BL) yang ditanam dalam pot.   Setiap kultivar ditanam dalam 10 pot sebagai ulangan. Penanaman dilakukan dalam dua periode. Persentase tingkat keberhasilan persilangan dihitung dari jumlah buah yang jadi dibagi dengan jumlah bunga yang disilangkan dikali 100%. Hasil kajian tingkat keberhasilan persilangan menunjukkan bahwa: 1) dari 12 keturunan hasil persilangan antara 3 kultivar melon dengan 2 blewah terdapat tingkat keberhasilan yang beragam, 2). persentase keberhasilan tertinggi terdapat pada persilangan antara BL x MM yaitu sebesar 85% dan persentase terendah terdapat pada persilangan antara BB x MK yaitu sebesar 42%, 3). terjadi tingkat inkompatibilitas yang cukup tinggi pada varietas hasil persilangan BB x MK.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this research was to study of  the cross success level between melon and cantaloupe. Mating design used was a complete diallel. Crosses were conducted by intercrossed between 3 cultivars of melon (yellow melon (MK), melon white (MP), red melon (MM)) and two cultivars of cantaloupe (round shape cantaloupe fruit (BB) and oval shape cantaloupe fruit (BL)) planted in pots. Each cultivar were planted in 10 pots as replication. Planting is conducted in two periods. The percentage of crossing success rate was calculated from the number pollinated flowers divided by the amount of harvested fruit then multiplied by 100%. The study results showed that: 1). the cross success rate of 12 offspring from intercrossing between 3 melon cultivars and 2 cantaloupe cultivars was variant, 2). The highest percentage of cross success rate was found in crosses between BL x MM (85%) and the lowest percentage was at a cross between BB x MK (42%), 3). Incompatibility level was fairly high  in offspring from crosses BB x MK
